Our experienced engineer Shane recently completed the installation of a chemical dosing unit at a commercial bakery, providing a dedicated point for introducing water treatment chemicals into the closed system.
Chemical dosing forms part of water treatment within commercial heating and cooling systems. A dosing unit gives engineers a controlled and practical way to introduce the appropriate treatment when required.
What Does a Chemical Dosing Unit Do?
A chemical dosing unit, commonly referred to as a dosing pot, is connected to a closed heating or cooling system. It can be isolated from the main circuit, allowing the required chemical to be added before being introduced into the circulating system water.
The type of treatment and concentration required will depend on the individual system, its condition and the manufacturer’s requirements.
Why Is Water Treatment Important?
Water quality can affect pipework, heat exchangers, pumps, valves and other components within a closed system.
Appropriate treatment can be used to control issues such as corrosion, scale and microbiological contamination where relevant. The correct approach should be based on the condition and requirements of the installation rather than adding chemicals without first considering what the system requires.
Installing the Chemical Dosing Unit
For this bakery project, Shane installed the dosing unit into the existing system, creating a permanent and accessible dosing point for future water treatment.
The unit itself does not automatically treat the system or determine which chemical is required. Instead, it provides a practical means of introducing the specified treatment when dosing is needed.
System water can also be tested where necessary to assess its condition and determine whether further treatment is required.

Chemical dosing is one element of maintaining the condition of a closed commercial system. Having a suitable dosing point in place makes it easier to manage future water treatment as part of ongoing maintenance.
With the installation completed by Shane, the bakery now has a dedicated point for chemical treatment when required.
