Why the gas pipework needed to be dealt with first
Leaving an existing gas installation unresolved during demolition would create an unnecessary risk for the people carrying out the work.
As a building is dismantled, pipework can be exposed, disturbed or damaged. If a gas installation had not been properly isolated and taken out of service, damage to gas pipework could potentially result in an uncontrolled gas release, creating a serious fire or explosion hazard where an ignition source was present.
